Kimi Raikkonen says Lotus has got to make sure it doesn't suffer a poor start to Saturday's running in Monaco after a "not ideal" day of practice.

Having been well adrift of his team-mate Romain Grosjean in FP1, Raikkonen improved in FP2 but was still three quarters of a second off the pace which was again set by Mercedes. Raikkonen admitted that it hadn't been the smoothest day and said it would be "a disaster" if Lotus has a repeat performance ahead of qualifying.

"[Thursday was] not ideal," Raikkonen said. "It didn't start very well, we had some issues, and then it got better and better. On the high fuel it didn't feel too bad but I'm sure we can improve.

"On Saturday we have to see how it goes in the morning. For sure if it goes like this morning then it's going to be a disaster but we improved a lot and as I said we were getting better and better all the time. So hopefully we can get a few things to improve and then we'll end up more or less where we should be."

Raikkonen added that he felt he could have matched Rosberg's fastest time if he'd had a smooth day.

"I think it is [achievable]. Once we get all the things right I don't see why not and we'll see what happens on Saturday."
