Hatton KOs plans to return to ring

Ricky Hatton has scrapped his plans to return to the ring in 2010, according to reports.

The 31-year-old announced in January that he would compete in at least one more fight this year, with Juan Manuel Marquez said to be willing to offer his services for a match-up.

With Hatton's weight having increased substantially since his last in-ring appearance against Manny Pacquiao in May 2009, the Mancunian may need to lose as much as four stone before attaining the requisite fighting weight for the light-welterweight division.

Media claims suggest that Hatton has abandoned his attempt to shed this excess, opting instead to take a holiday to Tenerife. During this trip, the pugilist is reported to have told friends that he will not box again.

The former IBO champion, who has suffered two defeats in 47 bouts, is likely to now focus on his burgeoning promotional business.

News of Hatton's U-turn will appease Amir Khan and Joe Calzaghe, both of whom have urged The Hitman to call off his plans for a ring comeback.
