Rebecca Adlington picked up her second title of the week, winning the women's 200m freestyle final at the British Gas Swimming Championships on Tuesday.

Adlington, a double Olympic champion, won the 400m freestyle on Saturday, and she built on that success in the shorter form of the event. Jazmin Carlin and Keri-Anne Payne came second and third.

There was plenty for Adlington to do as she hit the final turn in fourth place, but she had clearly held something back as she stormed through the field. Commonwealth silver medallist Carlin, 22, ended the race 0.13s behind, a good sign for British swimming in the build-up to London 2012.

Former world record holder for the 400m event, Jo Jackson, had led coming off the turn but she faded into fifth.

"There were six girls under two minutes and that has set us up nicely for the 4x200m relay in Shanghai," said Adlington, who will also contest the 800m freestyle.

"We all do genuinely love each other and it is great when we can come together and we always give the rest of the world a good challenge.

"I don't know what to expect from the 800m really because it has not gone for me over the last couple of years and I feel as though I have lost my touch really. But hopefully after the two gold medals I can go out there and do it again."

Elsewhere, Michael Rock added to his Commonwealth silver medal with a strong defence of his 200m butterfly title, beating Joe Roebuck and Roberto Pavoni. Like Adlington, Rock's time was inside the World Championship qualifying standard.

"I was really pleased with that performance, I just wanted to get the qualification and while the time isn't quite where I need to be, I've moved on from last year and I'm pretty confident that I can move on again before Shanghai," said Rock.

There were also wins for Tom Allen in the men's 800m final, and Douglas Scott in the men's 50m breaststroke.
