Vettel admits title 'would be a great relief'
Sebastian Vettel admits "it would be a great relief" to win a fourth world championship this weekend in the Indian Grand Prix.
After his victory at Suzuka, Vettel only requires a fifth-place finish to secure the title in India, while he'll also be crowned champion if Fernando Alonso fails to finish in the top two. Although Vettel says he isn't focusing on the title permutations, he explained that he isn't desperate to wrap it up at the first available opportunity.
"It's not really something you want to get out of the way, it should be a very positive thing," Vettel said. "For sure it would be a great relief because ultimately it's what we've been working so hard for the whole year. Obviously we're in a great position with a good gap in the points table, but I don't come here thinking 'OK I have to do this, I have to do that'; I didn't do that the last three years. Sometimes I think it was good just to carry on, other times it was good not to know the figures and stats because it was speaking against us more than for us.
"The target is to win the race and then should we do that we know as well that it's good enough to secure the title. It is something very special so I don't think it makes a lot of sense to talk about it beforehand because you just take away the excitement."
Asked how it would feel to secure a fourth championship, Vettel replied: "I think at least as good as the other three.
"Obviously it's looking pretty good but we'll focus on the job we have this weekend and the target is to get the maximum both for the race and also for the championship.
"For sure it's nice to have the opportunity [to secure the title] but I'm not trying to focus on that, I'm trying to focus on the race. I said many times that the most important for us and for myself is that we win the championship. It doesn't really matter where and when."
