Sebastian Vettel has been named the International Racing Driver of the Year at Sunday night's Autosport Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Vettel, who became the youngest Formula One champion in the sport's history, said it was good to be back with the team and celebrate his achievement.

"Yesterday we had a very special night with the guys from the team in London, which was very special because I've been around the planet since the one night we had in Abu Dhabi. It's been great to be back with them and to be able to celebrate this properly," said Vettel. "It is my first time at the Autosport Awards, and I came for the trophy. It is very, very special. I was hoping to get it and I have pictures in my mind of guys like [Ayrton] Senna picking up this piece. So it is very, very nice - and it is a big honour."

Sir Jackie Stewart and Rubens Barrichello were both recipients of the Gregor Grant Award in recognition of their lifetime achievements in the sport.

"I knew Gregor, another Scot and a great storyteller, well, so to get this award is an honour," said Stewart.

Among the night's other winners were Formula Renault UK runner-up Lewis Williamson, who won the Autosport BRDC Award, netting a test drive with McLaren in the process. Kamui Kobayashi was named rookie of the year, the Red Bull RB6 the car of the year and the McLaren F-Duct won the Pioneering Award.
