Sebastian Vettel has admitted he dreams of racing for Ferrari one day and joked he would offer Fernando Alonso a year's holiday to take his place.

Vettel and Red Bull have recently played down speculation about his future beyond his current contract, which expires at the end of the year with an option for 2012. But speaking to the Italian press, Vettel showed his admiration for rivals Ferrari.

"I would like to be on the podium at Monza with Ferrari," he told Libero. "One day I do hope to be with the team from Maranello. However, I am happy to stay with Red Bull and even now there are a lot of Italians who support me."

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I'm happy at Red Bull but I dream of Ferrari."And when asked hypothetically who he would drive for if he could not race for Red Bull, Vettel joked: "I would pay a year's holiday to Alonso to have the red car."

Vettel first talked about his dream of driving for Ferrari last November, but Red Bull played down the comments in January.

"Sebastian won't leave us just because of the Ferrari legend," Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said. "We are the world championship team, and as long as we offer Sebastian a package that is better than the others, he's not going to leave just because of a mythical history."
