Red Bull can take pole - Webber

Mark Webber believes Red Bull will be able to challenge for pole position in Singapore after an encouraging day of practice on Friday.

Sebastian Vettel was quickest in both free practice sessions, with Webber sixth in FP1 and fourth in the second session. Both Red Bull's failed to finish the last race in Monza and the team hasn't won since Webber's victory at Silverstone, but he said he's confident that free practice has shown it will be a threat in Singapore.

"I think we're a little bit more competitive as well which is nice," Webber said. "Plenty to go through tonight, it's a long lap - a lot of details - and we need to keep chipping away. The track's going to move a bit as well so we need to be ready for that tomorrow night but so far a solid start for us.

"Unfortunately we had a little bit of an issue on my long run so we had to split that, so we'll have a look at how Seb went on his. [The tyres] looked OK, they're going to need managing of course, but it's managing and then make a pit stop and get another set I suppose so they're going OK."

Looking at qualifying specifically, Webber is confident Red Bull will be able to compete for pole having not had a car on the front row since Vettel qualified second in Germany.

"I think we've got the normal suspects now hopefully again back at the front, and it can be us fighting for the front row along with McLaren. Ferrari look pretty good as well. But we never take anything for granted, we've got a fresh day tomorrow and we've got to be ready for that. Normally we find a bit of a step on Friday compared to Saturday - with the exception of the last two events - but we're looking forward to putting up a good challenge tomorrow."

Webber also admits that he can notice a big difference between the car's performance at Singapore this year without the blown diffuser but that it doesn't affect Red Bull's competitiveness.

"I think we can be strong on Sunday for sure. That's something to look forward to. We've got to execute a clean Saturday and then we'll take Sunday when it comes. But so far so good.

"It's a very low speed sort of circuit so the blown diffuser was going to be very powerful in these sort of situations, so I think that we're quite a long way off the pace from last year but overall we're pretty competitive as a team so it's good."
