Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn has confirmed Rubens Barrichello is being considered as a potential driver for the team in 2014.

With Sergey Sirotkin lined up to be one of the team's race drivers next season, a driver with more experience would be attractive to Sauber with so many new technical regulations coming in to effect. Amid reports that Barrichello has held talks with Sauber, Kaltenborn was willing to acknowledge he is a candidate for a seat next year.

"I always have to give you the same answer on that!" Kaltenborn said. "We will announce in due course … I think there are a couple of options out there and we know what he has - his experience - we know that he would like to come back, so let's see."

However, Kaltenborn also ruled out the chance of Barrichello appearing for the team as early as the Brazilian Grand Prix this year.

"I don't see any possibility there because we have no reason to change our two drivers for that race."
