Perez expecting 'tough weekend' for Sauber
Sergio Perez believes Sauber could be in for a "tough weekend" at the European Grand Prix but maintains that it could win a race this season.
Perez's third place in Canada two weeks ago was his second podium of the season, and as a result he is confident that the team can win a race in 2012. Looking at the European Grand Prix specifically, however, Perez was less sure that the team would be able to deliver a repeat of its performance in Montreal.
"I think that definitely there is a chance that we will win a race this season," Perez said. "We've already had a second and third place so I think the next target has to be to win a race. Hopefully we'll be able to make it. I expect a very difficult weekend for us, but you never know. If we can get sorted on Friday and have a good Saturday and good race then who knows, but I think it will be a tough weekend for us."
Perez added that the car could be strong but that the high temperatures and abrasive track surface could make a repeat of its one-stop Canada strategy tough.
"I think it will be good. I think it will be a difficult weekend for us in terms of this track asking a lot of the rear axle with braking and lateral combination, it's a tough circuit. So I expect a tough weekend for us but I think if we get everything in place we can be competitive.
"Last year we managed to do one stop, this year I think it will be more difficult. With the tyres we are having this year and our car is not as good as last year with the tyres, so it will be harder to manage a one-stopper I think. We have to put ourselves in a position to be able to do a very aggressive strategy to fight for good points."
