Sergio Perez says Sauber still believes it can overhaul Mercedes in the battle for fifth place in the constructors' championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Sauber goes in to the final race of the season 12 points behind a Mercedes team which has failed to score a point in the last five grands prix. Sauber was also scoreless at the last race in Austin and has scored just eight points in the last four rounds, but when asked if he still thought Sauber could overtake Mercedes Perez replied: "Yeah, definitely.

"I think if we have a good weekend then everything can happen. You never know, so let's go out there and do our best ... With a normal race I think it will be more difficult - very difficult I would say - to get in to the big points. [Wet weather] might help us, because anything can happen in the rain."

When it was put to him that the bumpy nature of the Interlagos track could be a disadvantage to Sauber, Perez said the biggest factor contributing to its recent form is actually the tyre selections.

"We don't have a big concern about it; we have more concern about the tyre choice. I think Pirelli has been extremely conservative in the last races so we've been a bit concerned about that. But I think we will be able to do a good job and we're looking forward to our last weekend in the team so it's a very important weekend for all of us to try and end the season on a high."
