Button struggles with rear tyres

Jenson Button said a tricky balance in his McLaren was to blame for his lacklustre qualifying session at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Button will start from fourth on the grid but was over 0.5s off team-mate Lewis Hamilton on pole position. He said he had been struggling with the rear of the car all weekend and that a lack of grip towards the end of his qualifying lap did not bode well for the race.

"For me it was okay but not a great qualifying," he said. "I was struggling with the rear of the car really and high degradation on that one timed lap so the race could be tricky.

"Trying to balance it, I've found that very difficult this weekend. It's really difficult to get it right because you're bouncing around a lot and use the kerbs a lot around here and they throw you off. So it's important to get a balance you are happy with and I didn't find that today."

Asked about Pastor Maldonado claiming second on the grid against the course of events, Button added: "It was surprising so he obviously put a good lap together and the car is working alright round here."
