Grosjean confident E20 will suit high-speed Barcelona
Romain Grosjean is confident Lotus will be in good shape at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, but said he would need a perfect weekend to stand a chance of victory any time soon.
Grosjean finished on the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix behind team-mate Kimi Raikkonen as Lotus appeared to have the fastest car on the track for part of the race. The team has been positive about the car on high-speed circuits during testing and Grosjean said he is confident in the E20 ahead of this weekend's race at the fast and flowing Circuit de Catalunya.
"We've seen in the race that the car is not bad everywhere," Grosjean said. "For sure I think we are better in fast corners than what we thought in the beginning ... but here, why not? Barcelona is a good circuit, we were not too bad in winter testing, even if it's very different to the race. I think our car is giving us confidence and that it work well and we can get the best of everything."
However, when asked if Lotus was now in a position to win one of the next few races, Grosjean said: "To win a race this year we would have to get everything right - the quali, the start, the race - everything perfect. It's so tight that it's very difficult to predict who will be on the podium on Sunday."
But with overtaking difficult at the Circuit de Catalunya, Grosjean said he would not be able to rely solely on the car's race pace to finish on the podium, as he did from seventh on the grid in Bahrain.
"It won't be the same as Bahrain where overtaking was not too hard, here it will be much harder and we know that a good [grid] position will be more important," he added. "You will not be able to start from far back and then try on a conventional race to come back. So here we will have to work on our quali pace and try to get the best from the car to do a good lap and then see from there where we are and what the deg[radation] is like and all those questions that everybody has at the moment."
