Lotus driver Romain Grosjean confessed himself a happy man after a productive Friday practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix saw him finish sixth fastest.

Grosjean, who finished a commendable third in Bahrain, ended the session one place behind team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in the time sheets and praised the balance of the car on both hard and soft tyres.

"It was a pretty good day today," said Grosjean. "The weather is fantastic, the car feels great and the lap times were promising; I'm a happy man. The balance felt strong on both tyres and we were able to complete long runs to give us valuable tyre data for Sunday."

Grosjean was seventh on the grid in Bahrain and thinks a similar result could be possible due to the way the chassis is able to handle tyre wear towards the end of a stint.

"I'm happy with the performance of the car even when the tyres are nearer the end of their performance life which is a good sign for this weekend. It's very close of course, so qualifying will be interesting. I can't wait for tomorrow to come."
