Button confident of moving up through the field

Jenson Button is confident he can move forward from his tenth place grid position at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Button qualified 11th but will be promoted to tenth after his McLaren team-mate received a penalty demoting him from pole position to the back of the grid. The Circuit de Catalunya has been notoriously difficult to overtake on in the past but Button is confident he will be able to move forward if he can get his tyres working.

"It's not the easiest [circuit to overtake on] as we've seen in the past, but I think there will be some overtaking," he said. "We saw a lot more overtaking last year than we've seen in previous years with the KERS and DRS. I overtook Fernando [Alonso] and [Mark] Webber within one lap so it is possible to overtake here. If we have a good car tomorrow and the car's in the right place I think we can have a really good race tomorrow.

"For us there is a lot of points still up for grabs. As you saw with Kimi [Raikkonen] in Bahrain, he qualified down in P11 and he almost won the race. There's a lot of possibilities still.

Button admitted he was clearly doing something wrong as he was over a second off Hamilton's best time.

"I know that the pace is there," he added. "Lewis did a fantastic job all the way trough qualifying and it shows that the pace is there. But being a second off you know something isn't right, you're not turning something on correctly."

Button said he had found ways to improve his lap times but that it had resulted in skewing the balance of his car.

"On Friday the tyres were working really well and we did two runs yesterday [Friday] on the prime tyres and the first run I said I had massive understeer to the guys," Button added. "We pumped the tyres up a bit more and I went straight back out and went half a second quicker just because the fronts were switched on. But forgetting the time, the balance was completely changed so it's a tricky one to try and work out and it's obviously difficult for everyone, but I'm finding it especially difficult so it's something I need to work on."
