Kvitova and Berdych see off France for Hopman Cup win

Petra Kvitova added the Hopman Cup to her fast-expanding trophy cabinet as the world No. 2 secured victory for Czech Republic with Tomas Berdych in Perth.

Kvitova, who was crowned WTA Player of the Year last season after winning Wimbledon and the WTA Championships as well as helping steer her country to Fed Cup glory, kicked off 2012 in a similar vein.

Having beaten Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals, Kvitova continued her unbeaten start to the season with a 7-5 6-1 victory over Marion Bartoli to give Czech Republic the lead against France. Bartoli led 5-3 in the first set, but Kvitova charged back to claim victory in under an hour and a half.

Berdych then claimed a 7-6(0) 6-4 win over Richard Gasquet to wrap up victory in the eight-nation mixed team title. It was Czech Republic's first Hopman Cup win since Jana Novotna and Petr Korda in 1994.

Kvitova now heads to Sydney, where she has the opportunity to dethrone Wozniacki as world No. 1 if she wins the tournament, where the Dane is the top seed.
