Favourites Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic came through their semi-finals unscathed to set up an all-top ten final at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
World No.4 Wozniacki had the harder of the semi-final draws against No. 8-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska but she might be fresher for the decider after pushing through 6-2 6-3 in the relative cool of the evening match.
The teenage Dane generated ten break points in the match and took half of those, with her treatment of Radwanska's second serve particularly brutal. The first set was over in no time as Wozniacki flew out of the blocks, and while Radwanska lifted her levels in the second, she could not stem the tide sufficiently.
Earlier in the hot, sunny conditions, Jankovic outsmarted and outplayed Sam Stosur, who will join the other semi-finalists in the top ten when the new rankings come out on Monday, to take the match 6-2 6-4.
In a similar vein to the other semi, Jankovic got off to a flying start and Stosur looked shell-shocked in the early exchanges. The Australian had no answers in the tactical battle as Jankovic picked apart her game whilst enjoying easy points on her own serve.
In a theme consistent to most of the day's matches, Stosur did improve in the second set but not enough to force a third set, with Jankovic holding her nerve to extend her perfect record over Stosur to 3-0 and go within a match of her 12th career title.
Jankovic credited her ability to get on top of Stosur's serve for achieving the straight-sets win.
"I thought the key to today's match was my return," said Jankovic. "Samantha has an unbelievable serve, one of the best serves in the women's game, and I was able to return a lot of her first serves. I was putting a lot of pressure on her second serve. So I think that was the key, because I was able to break her quite a few times. And then it made everything easier for me."
