The UNICEF Open continued in Hertogenbosch on Wednesday, where No. 1 seed David Ferrer was again in dominant form as he beat Leonardo Mayer 6-3 6-1.

Ferrer secured his place in the quarter-finals with a relatively straightforward win over his Argentinian opponent, and will now face Igor Sijsling in the last eight after the Dutchman fended off the challenge of Olivier Rochus with a 7-5 7-6(4) victory.

Tatsuma Ito sprung something of a surprise by beating Jurgen Melzer in straight sets, as the world No. 35 crashed out of the tournament. The Japanese wasted little time in dispensing with the No. 3 seed, sending him packing with a 6-2 6-2 scoreline.

Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Xavier Malisse, who saw off second seed Victor Troicki on Tuesday, continued his fine run of form as he beat Paolo Lorenzi 7-6(3) 6-2, and eighth seed Lukasz Kubot went out with a 6-3 0-6 6-4 defeat at the hands of Benoit Paire.

Elsewhere there was more ATP Tour action taking place at the AEGON International, where Andy Roddick was a straight sets winner over Jeremy Chardy. Roddick served seven aces and did not offer up any break points as he chalked up a 6-2 7-6(6) triumph.

England's Jamie Baker failed to book his spot in the next round despite a spirited effort against Philipp Kohlschreiber. Facing a player ranked 171 places higher on the ATP Tour, Baker forced the match to a third set but was beaten 6-2 3-6 6-3.

Third seed Andreas Seppi beat Carlos Berlocq 7-6(2) 6-3, but there was a shock when No. 4 seed Bernard Tomic was pegged back from a one-set advantage by Fabio Fognini in a 4-6 6-3 7-5 defeat.

Marcos Baghdatis and Steve Darcis also played out a close encounter which the Belgian edged 6-4 4-6 6-4, and second seed Marcel Granollers was knocked out by Denis Istomin after taking the final set to a tiebreak, the end score 6-1 4-6 7-6(2).
