What They Said
Novak Djokovic underlined his status as the red-hot favourite to defend his Wimbledon title as he cruised into the quarter-finals with a straight sets victory over Viktor Troicki.
With Roger Federer surviving an injury scare during his match against Xavier Malisse earlier on Monday, the world No. 1 fired a statement of intent as he powered to a 6-3 6-1 6-3 victory over his fellow Serb.
Djokovic will also have the luxury of a day's rest; his quarter-final opponent will have to return to court on Tuesday to complete their fourth-round match - Florian Mayer was leading Richard Gasquet 6-3 2-1 before play was suspended due to rain at the All England Club.
Djokovic, who had beaten his Olympic doubles partner in their last 11 matches, grabbed a decisive break in the sixth game as he rattled through the opening set in under half an hour.
The Serb thrilled the crowds as he produced a masterclass in grass-court tennis, mixing powerful forehands with delicate drop shots as he dominated the second set, breaking three times to tighten his grip on the match.
And when Troicki dumped a backhand into the net to hand the top seed a break in the third set, it was only a matter of time before Djokovic wrapped up a routine victory inside an hour-and-a-half.
