- US Open, Day Two
Keothavong hammered by Kerber

Anne Keothavong's US Open challenge was a brief one, with the Brit proving no match for Germany's Angelique Kerber.
Keothavong has had a tough year and it was pretty much summed up in her 6-2 6-0 defeat to Kerber as she struck the ball well at times but paid for some poor shot selections and has now lost seven matches on the spin dating back to Wimbledon.
Keothavong made an aggressive start and worked a break point in the opening game of the match. She had a chance to convert, but missed the sideline and Kerber was able to hold.
Kerber got a look at a break point in the sixth game and she was gifted the break by a shocking shot selection from Keothavong. The Brit appeared to have the point in safe keeping, having worked her opponent around the court superbly, but she went for a cute drop shot and made a complete mess of it - with the ball not even reaching the net.
Kerber took a firm grim following the break and she wrapped up the opening set in 30 minutes when Keothavong threw a forehand over the baseline.
A break of serve came Kerber's way at the start of the second and from that moment it was one-way traffic as Keothavong got increasingly ragged and surrendered the second set to love.
Kerber will have to be on her game in the second round as she will be up against Venus Williams in the second round.
Williams has had a torrid time with illness in the past couple of years, but she has spoken positively about being on her way back and she served notice with a stunning display in a 6-3 6-1 win over Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
Mattek-Sands has also had a tough time with injuries this year but even at her very best she would have struggled to contain Williams who moved with freedom and hit a string of punishing winners.
There was good news for British tennis as Johanna Konta secured a 6-2 7-5 win over Timea Babos. Born in Australia, Konta has lived in Britain for seven years, two months ago she was granted citizenship and she looks a fine addition as she showed great fight to take out Babos.
Konta took the first set with ease, but she had to rally from 5-1 down in the second. Babos had a string of set points in the ninth game but she failed to take them and fell apart mentally, allowing Konta to storm through and claim the win.
Olga Govortsova is up next for Konta following her win over the 29th seed Tamira Paszek.
