- US Open, Day Two
Wozniacki crashes to Begu

Caroline Wozniacki's downward spiral continued as she was beaten in straight sets by Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round of the US Open.
The Dane has looked a shadow of the player who was world No. 1 and she was simply overwhelmed 6-2 6-2 by a player ranked 96 in the world.
Wozniacki, a finalist at the 2009 iteration, hit 22 unforced errors and combined with just four winners, she could not keep Begu at bay.
She arrived at Flushing Meadows under an injury cloud and came on court with her knee and and thigh strapped up, which can hardly have helped her frame of mind, and she had the trainer on for treatment during the game.
Begu broke on two occasions in the first set, while Wozniacki failed to convert any of the four chances she crafted, and that proved the difference.
Wozniacki attempted to trade blows with Begu in the second set but it resulted in her making more errors. The Dane, seeded eight, did not give up the fight and was scampering round the court to the end but Begu did not blink and a forehand winner sealed her place in the second round.
