Robson through to last eight in Guangzhou

British women's No. 1 Laura Robson is through to the quarter-finals of the Guangzhou Open after beating second seed Zheng Jie.

Robson needed just 92 minutes to see off her opponent 6-3 6-3 and make it through to the last eight.

The 18-year-old was in dominant form as she booked a slot against world No. 48 Peng Shuai in the quarter-finals.

Robson, currently ranked 74th in the world standings and eyeing a spot inside the top 50, is well on course to secure direct entry to the first round of the Australian Open in January, something which the top 108 ranked players are granted.

She progressed with ease past Spaniard Maria Teresa Torro-Flor on Monday, against who she led 6-2 3-1 before her opponent was forced to retire.
