Vergne lands Friday tests at Toro Rosso

Red Bull junior driver Jean-Eric Vergne will drive for Toro Rosso during Friday practice at three of the four remaining grands prix this season.

Vergne will replace Jaime Alguersuari during first practice in Korea, then take Sebastien Buemi's seat during FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix before one more Friday outing at the Brazilian Grand Prix, when he will replace whoever has the least amount of points. The team said he will not drive at the Indian Grand Prix because it "is a new circuit and therefore both our race drivers will be given the maximum amount of track time".

Vergne arrives in Korea fresh off the back of finishing runner-up in the World Series by Renault last weekend and has been tipped for a race drive at Toro Rosso over the next few years.

The Toro Rosso statement read: "Jaime sits out the session because the last time a driver was replaced on Friday morning, it was Sebastien Buemi who gave up his seat to Daniel Ricciardo. Vergne will not drive at the Indian Grand Prix, because this is a new circuit and therefore both our race drivers will be given the maximum amount of track time. He will return in Abu Dhabi, replacing Buemi. At the final round of the season in Brazil, whichever of the Toro Rosso drivers has the least points will give up his seat to Vergne for FP1."

Vergne tested for Toro Rosso at last year's young driver test in Abu Dhabi and in 2010 became the British F3 champion.
