Alves and Abedi set for Birmingham bout

An intriguing welterweight match-up between Thiago Alves and Papy Abedi is the latest bout to be added to UFC 138 in Birmingham in November.
UFC officials confirmed on Wednesday that the two fighters have verbally agreed to the contest.
Alves, a veteran of the Octagon, is looking to arrest an alarming slide ever since his defeat to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 100 in 2009 - which has seen him lose two of his next three contests.
Prior to the loss to GSP he had posted seven straight wins, however, including impressive victories over Chris Lytle and Josh Koscheck.
Abedi, meanwhile, will be making his official UFC debut - after agreeing a four-fight contract with the organisation with an undefeated 8-0 record in eight MMA fights. The 33-year-old judo black belt, currently based in Sweden, previously competed at middleweight.
UFC 138 takes place inside the LG Arena at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on November 5.
