British welterweight contender John Hathaway has been forced to withdraw from a home fight at UFC 138 due to illness.

Hathaway was set to fight Matt Brown in Birmingham on November 5, but has been ruled out of the contest with less than three weeks remaining until the pair were due to get into the Octagon. Brown will now fight Seth Baczynski at UFC 139 instead.

Only this week Hathaway expressed his intention to fight more in 2012, but he will now have to wait to continue his pursuit of a title shot.

"It takes a lot to get ready for a fight," Hathaway told ESPN. "It's fine by me to only fight two this year, but I'll definitely try to fight three or four next year."

Hathaway's absence is not the only change to the card for the event in England, with Oli Thompson also forced to withdraw due to a torn bicep. Liverpool's Rob Broughton has agreed to step in for Thompson to face Phil De Fries in a heavyweight contest - despite recently losing at UFC 135 in Denver - while Terry Etim's lightweight bout with Edward Faaloloto has been added to the main card to replace the lost Hathaway fight.

In the main event, Mark Munoz is still due to face Chris Leben in the first ever non-title five-rounder as scheduled.
