Georges St-Pierre's trainer has poured cold water on claims that the UFC welterweight champion could be heading for a superfight against Anderson Silva.

Fans have been clamouring for the Canadian to step up to middleweight for a showdown with Silva, but Firas Zahabi has revealed St-Pierre is more likely to drop down to lightweight than move up to 185 pounds.

"GSP could make 155," Zahabi told Sherdog Radio. "Georges is not a big weight - cutting to 170 is easy for him."

However, with Frankie Edgar the current lightweight beltholder, Zahabi admits St-Pierre is unlikely to drop to 155lbs because the pair share a mutual trainer in Renzo Gracie.

"I'd want him to move down to 155 if Frankie was not the champion," Zahabi said.

St-Pierre was forced to pull out of his title defence against Carlos Condit with a knee injury at UFC 137 on Saturday night. Welterweights Nick Diaz and BJ Penn now headline the card.
