Nick Diaz and BJ Penn have shown plenty of respect in the build-up to UFC 137, but Diaz lashed out angrily as the pair had to be separated at Friday's weigh-ins.

Penn and Diaz have trained together in the past, and Diaz has labelled the Hawaiian his "favourite fighter". However, it seems his nose has been put out of joint by the fact Penn agreed to endanger their relationship by agreeing to fight the Strikeforce welterweight champion.

"I'm not the one who signed first," Diaz said. "I look at it like that. I'm not one to fight my friends or people I know. I probably wouldn't have signed until they let me know it was all a go. They still had to talk me into it."

As a result Diaz - much the bigger man - squared up to Penn at the weigh-ins, and when Penn pushed his head under his rival's nose, Dana White quickly stepped in as Diaz appeared to fling out a right hand.

Elsewhere in an entertaining weigh-in session, the newly-slimmed Roy Nelson still weighed in at 252lbs after he opted to use a fat suit. And Tyson Griffin failed to make the featherweight limit for his clash with Bart Palaszewski - although the pair will still fight.
