Ellenberger open to Alves, Diaz... anybody
If there is one message that comes loud and clear from the understated Jake Ellenberger, it is that he will happily mix it with anybody in the UFC.
Ellenberger is currently hot property in the UFC, having knocked out Jake Shields inside a minute during his latest outing. He expects to fight again early in 2012, although an opponent is yet to be named.
"My manager's talking to Joe [Silva] right now and I know it's going to be around January or February," Ellenberger told ESPN. "That's when I'm training for, but I don't have an official date."
All fighters have their personality traits and Ellenberger can simply be defined by the phrase "quiet confidence". He has already said he would "put Nick Diaz down" if they ever fought, and the 26-year-old also wants a rematch with Carlos Condit - the last man to defeat him.
He'll have to wait for both men as Diaz prepares for Georges St-Pierre and Condit heads for a collision with Josh Koscheck on the same UFC 143 card, so Ellenberger must find challengers from elsewhere.
Thiago Alves, an impressive winner at UFC 138, admitted a clash with the Juggernaut would be a "great fight", and the suggestion certainly did not faze a steely Ellenberger.
"It doesn't matter to me," Ellenberger responded. "He's a good fighter, he had an impressive victory and proved he's still one of the top guys in the division. I'm always open."
