Overeem clears drug hurdle, Lesnar fight is on

Alistair Overeem has the green light to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 after his drug test came back negative on Tuesday.

Overeem had been granted only a conditional fight licence for the December 30 bout after he failed to deliver a drug sample on time. The heavyweight was asked by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to conduct a series of random tests over the next six months, the first of which had to be cleared before fight night.

On Tuesday Overeem received clearance that he would be allowed to fight, although any consequential victory can still be rendered void if he fails further tests after UFC 141.

The news is a huge boost for the UFC ahead of its year-end event, which takes place in front of a packed house at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The winner of Lesnar v Overeem will earn a shot at the heavyweight title.

White simply tweeted: "Overeem is ready to go!!! Lesnar vs Overeem is on!"
