A period of 24 hours is a long time in the world of mixed martial arts, and after Wednesday started with news that Carlos Condit had accepted a rematch with Nick Diaz, the day ended with claims from the Diaz camp that the fight will definitely not take place.

Condit and Diaz, in the eyes of many observers, have a score to settle after UFC 143. Condit's tactical masterplan earned him a decision victory on Saturday, but Diaz complained that the Greg Jackson-trained man had merely run away for five rounds.

Amid a cloud of controversy, the UFC appeared to be of the belief that a rematch was the best way to settle matters. President Dana White revealed late on Tuesday that Condit had agreed to the sequel, and May was mooted as a potential date.

However, Diaz's manager Cesar Gracie told ESPN the fight absolutely will not happen. He would not offer a reason, but he was clear that the sequel was not in the offing.

"Yeah, I said that [there will be no rematch]. But that's all I can say," Gracie told ESPN. "I can't say anything else. I can't do anything.

"Quote that if you want to. There is not going to be a rematch. Other than that, that's all I can say."

The UFC and White offered no official comment on the situation heading into Thursday, but Gracie promises that everything will be revealed shortly.
