Heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub has confessed it would inspire him to fight in England in the future, revealing that his mother is English.

Schaub is one of many big-name fighters scheduled to come to the UK in May for The MMA Show Live in Birmingham. He will be joined by the likes of Rory MacDonald, Kenny Florian and Stefan Struve - in addition to British stars Dan Hardy, Ross Pearson, Brad Pickett and many more.

The show itself will allow fans to meet the fighters, but for Schaub the trip is much more personal. The Hybrid has never been to his mother's country of birth, and admits he would love to fight in front of the UK public one day.

"We'll be over in May to do some signings and a seminar," Schaub told ESPN. "I'm actually half-English, my mother's from Stroud born-and-raised and it's my first time over there so I'm looking forward to it.

"You look at the line-up of fighters coming over, it's going to be pretty big, you've got Dan Hardy, Ross Pearson, overseas guys like myself - it's going to be a big event. I hope to meet a lot of fans out there.

"I'd love to fight over there, I've got a lot of family over there still and I'd love to fight in front of a UK crowd."

ESPN put forward the suggestion that Schaub, given his background, could one day become the first English UFC champion. And the 28-year-old, who fights Ben Rothwell at UFC 145, did not rule out the idea.

"You can claim that kind of Lennox Lewis-style! I guess you can, I am half-English!" Schaub replied.
