Charlie Adam insists he and his Liverpool team-mates can still qualify for next season's Champions League, though he admitted they must make the next few weeks count.

The Reds won the Carling Cup in February, their first major trophy in six years, but also fell ten points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race for Champions League football.

Kenny Dalglish's side face Sunderland, QPR and Wigan in March, as well as hosting Everton in next week's Merseyside derby and Stoke City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. And Adam has predicted that the next month will be the most crucial of the campaign for Liverpool.

"March is probably going to define the season for us and we're going to keep playing and trying to win as many games as we can,'' Adam said. "Every game is a massive game at this club. Hopefully we can get ourselves on the road to being successful again.

"You can never give up - you never know what can happen in this league. We'll never give up, no matter what. The aim is still there to challenge and we're in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, so we're looking forward to the rest of the season.

"We've got a lot of tough games, but they're games that we're ready for and hopefully we can win as many games as we can.''

The 2-1 reverse to fellow Champions League chasers Arsenal last week was the Merseysiders' first at home this season and was a bitter blow considering they dominated the match.

Adam feels the results have not reflected the club's performances on a number of occasions this season, but is not planning to dwell on last week's defeat.

"There have been positives all season. I think you can count on one hand how many bad performances we've had,'' Adam said. "For us, it's important how we react to the disappointment of last weekend.

"Now it's a case of dusting ourselves down and getting ready for the next game. It's a tough game away at Sunderland and we know we've got to be ready for it.''
