Overeem NSAC hearing set for April 24

It appears UFC president Dana White will wait until April 24 to confirm who fights Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146, following the failed drug test of Alistair Overeem.

The Wrestling Observer reports that White has promised that a heavyweight title bout involving champion Dos Santos will definitely take place at UFC 146. The obvious doubt is over the participation of Overeem.

A positive A sample showed Overeem had a T/E ratio that was way over what is permitted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Having not requested the B sample to be examined as of yet, Overeem is heading for a hearing on April 24.

That is when Overeem can attempt to explain why his test showed a T/E ratio of 14:1, when "normal" levels are 1:1. Should he have a good reason he can still secure a fight licence for his May 26 date with Dos Santos.

If not, White will need a Plan B that does not involve top contenders Frank Mir or Cain Velasquez, who fight on the same card. That bout will not be scrapped in order for one of them to fight Dos Santos, according to White.

Instead, the names of Mark Hunt, Dan Henderson and even Fedor Emelianenko have all been mentioned, but it is likely none will be shoe-horned into a title bout until Overeem first attempts to explain his failed test.
