After competing at welterweight in each of his past four fights, Jake Shields returns to middleweight on August 11 to face Ed Herman at UFC 150 in Denver, president Dana White said Monday night on Twitter.

Shields, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, dropped back to 170 pounds upon signing with UFC during the summer of 2010. He has compiled a 2-2 mark in the Octagon.

Overall, Shields has a professional record of 27-6-1, but his recent run has not been impressive. Lacklustre wins over Martin Kampmann and Yoshihiro Akiyama bookend back-to-backs defeats to Georges St-Pierre and Jake Ellenberger.

After a knee injury sidelined him for two years, Herman (20-7) returned to action in June 2011 to defeat Tim Credeur by first-round TKO. He is currently on a three-fight win streak.

Both Shields and Herman hold Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts and will form an intriguing battle come August 11.
