Alan Belcher has called on the UFC to give him Chris Weidman after initial opponent Vitor Belfort stepped up to fight Jon Jones.

Belcher was set to meet Belfort at UFC 153 in October, but Belfort was recently moved into the light-heavyweight division to face Jones for the 205lb title. The switch came after a chain of events that saw Dan Henderson withdraw from his meeting with Jones, before Lyoto Machida rejected a clash with the champion.

Belcher is currently suffering from a spinal fracture but, having waited so long to push himself into title contention, he is desperate for the UFC to hand him a fellow contender when he returns.

"Chris Weidman, I think that fight makes sense," Belcher said. "Do I think he's the number one contender? I don't know about that but I think he's definitely up there."

What about a direct meeting with champion Anderson Silva? "I don't see a title shot even happening," Belcher said. "Anderson Silva's at a point where he needs to be fighting Jon Jones, he needs to be fighting GSP. If I'm Anderson Silva's manager, that's what I'm telling him to do.

"Don't mess around with Alan Belcher or Chris Weidman there. I ain't even worried about that."
