UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has accepted full responsibility for the scrapping of UFC 151, which was scheduled to take place on September 1.

Jones had been due to face Dan Henderson at the event, but he was forced to withdraw due to injury. Jones was then offered Chael Sonnen as a replacement, but the title-holder spurned the invitation, as he did not feel eight days was long enough to prepare for a new opponent.

After finding himself widely criticised for his decision not to step up and meet Sonnen, Jones has now shown remorse on his Twitter account.

"Carrying the cross for my company's decision," Jones tweeted. "If someone has to take the blame, I will accept full responsibility for the way UFC 151 was cancelled. I want to sincerely apologise to all the other athletes [and] fans whose time and money was wasted.

"I feel terrible about the way that was handled."

Jones will face Vitor Belfort on September 22 at UFC 152 in Toronto.
