Georges St-Pierre has revealed he feared he may never return from injury as he prepares to make his comeback at UFC 154.

The UFC welterweight champion will enter the Octagon for the first time since April 2011 on November 17, when he will take on interim belt holder Carlos Condit.

Condit will be hoping to remove the 'interim' tag from the belt he currently owns, and St-Pierre admits he already considers the American to be the divisional king.

"I was confident the best Georges St-Pierre was behind me. I was starting all over again," St-Pierre said on UFC Primetime. "I was getting beat up in the gym by guys not even near my level and I could see through their eyes, they were looking at me like, 'Man, this guy is never going to come back the same.'"

St-Pierre, who believes the setback has only served to fire him up, says he was only prepared to return if he felt he was up to a title fight.

"At one point I thought to myself, 'Maybe I'm not going to be able to come back," he said. "Because I don't want to come back and get a beating. If I come back it's because I'm ready for a title-shot,. I had the phone in my hand…I was gonna call Dana White and say, 'Listen, man, I'm not ready for it.'

"It's never good to get injured but I truly believe this is gonna make me come back better and stronger than I was before. I lost that fire. This whole thing helped me get that fire back."
