Munoz accuses Maia of using voodoo against him
Mark Munoz jokingly accused Demian Maia of putting a spell on him during their UFC 131 encounter in Vancouver.
Munoz won a tight decision to boost his middleweight title credentials, but he had to recover from a potentially disastrous first round that saw Maia rock his foe with a big left hand. Munoz performed a little chicken dance as he attempted to regain his composure, and he is still unsure what he was caught with.
"It was kind of weird, like voodoo or something," he joked. "I thought it was nothing, then I stepped back like, 'What was that?'"
Maia surprised most onlookers with the improvement in his striking, not least Dana White, who heaped praise on the Brazilian despite his third loss in six fights.
"Beating Demian Maia is a big deal," said White. "It was a good, tough fight, and it was funny because Demian Maia looked awesome. The fact that [Munoz] bought Demian Maia, and the fact that he beat Demian the way that Demian fought tonight was unbelievable.
"I was very impressed [for Munoz] to win the way Demian Maia looked tonight. We'll see what happens."
