Fedor Emelianenko has shed light on what type of fight MMA fans can expect against Dan Henderson on July 30, revealing he has been focusing on his kickboxing skills.

Emelianenko is in desperate need of a victory in order to snap a two-fight losing streak, following losses to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva.

Henderson provides an opponent who, like Emelianenko, appears to be beyond his prime years, having recently lost a five-rounder to Jake Shields.

However, Henderson displayed in that fight with Shields that he still possesses a huge right hand, exemplifying the point again in wins against Renato Sobral and Rafael Cavalcante to earn the Strikeforce light-heavyweight title.

Emelianenko has been working to find a counter and, seeking the guidance of former K-1 champion Ernesto Hoost, it seems the Russian might be prepared to meet Henderson's chief weapon head-on.

"I've drawn conclusions on what areas of my training need work and what to pay attention to in training and in battle," Emelianenko said to SB Nation. "This time I have trained in Holland, in Russia and again at the training camp in Holland.

"I work with people who are the best in their disciplines and are focused on preparing me for the battle with Dan Henderson...Training for a fight is never easy regardless of the opponent. I train and prepare for every contest the same so I can compete to the best of my abilities."

Emelianenko flirted with retirement following the loss to Silva, which saw him dominated on the ground. However, the 34-year-old insists his mind is now back in the right place.

"I did speak of retiring and it was said in haste," Emelianenko said. "Two mistakes in a row cannot be coincidence. I do not want to allow a third, which is why I thought about departing from the sport.

"But then I discussed the situation with my coaches and spiritual father when I got home. After this I was absolutely sure that it is not the time for retirement and I must continue to fight. Now I'm training and preparing for the next battle with Dan Henderson."
