Nik Lentz may have been beaten and hospitalised at UFC Live, but his coach has claimed his bout with Charles Oliveira has been ruled a no-contest.

Lentz, previously maligned for his dour fight with Andre Winner, played his part in one of the most thrilling rounds of 2011 against Oliveira.

The duo had president Dana White tweeting, "What a fight", as they returned to their stools ahead of round two, but then things turned ugly when Oliveira delivered an illegal knee, not punished by the referee.

The Brazilian quickly fastened on a rear naked choke to cement victory, but he celebrated to the tune of 8,000 howls of disapproval from the Pittsburgh crowd.

White predicted the result would be changed, and on Monday Lentz's coach Greg Nelson confirmed Oliveira would not be credited with victory.

"Nik wins Fight of the Night bonus, and the fight was ruled a no-contest due to the illegal knee," Nelson wrote on Facebook.

Oliveira remains defiant that the result belongs to him, telling Tatame: "I didn't realize he was still on the ground… the knee landed and the referee didn't stop the fight, then I hit him again with another knee. The first one was illegal, but it didn't hit him on the jaw, and he kept fighting, trying to take me down. The second one actually hurt him.

"We're just waiting. But I think it won't happen (they won't change the result). He didn't go out, he kept on fighting and stood up, then he felt the second knee. There's no reason to not give me the victory."
