Pole wasn't easy - Vettel
Sebastian Vettel said it was not easy to take pole position at the United States Grand Prix after he left it until the last sector of his final lap to make the difference to Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber.
Vettel took pole by just over a tenth of a second from Webber but was down on his team-mate in sectors one and two. However, he managed to make the time back and more in the final sector to take pole position in tricky conditions.
"It was a tricky session because the wind picked up quite a lot since this morning and it does impact the behaviour of the car," he said. "It's not that easy, especially around the high-speed corners.
"I think I had a solid run at the end, which was enough to put the car on pole. It was very close with Mark, he seemed to get closer and closer the longer the weekend has gone on, but fortunately I could just manage to stay ahead - I think he might have had a mistake on his final shot.
"Obviously I'm very happy with pole position, I really like this place and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I think it's important to start on the clean side [of the grid] so we will see what we can do."
A one-stop strategy is expected on Sunday for most drivers, but Vettel said the tyres could still shake things up.
"At the moment things are looking good. We did the job rioght today, we will focus on tomorrow and go step by step. With the tyres it could be tricky. Strategy should be more or less clear, but with these tyres you never know."
