'A miracle' needed to beat Vettel - Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton says it would be "nothing shy of a miracle" if Sebastian Vettel were not to win the United States Grand Prix.
Vettel secured pole position ahead of team-mate Mark Webber and is heavy favourite to take his eighth consecutive victory having won every race since the summer break. When asked what it would take to repeat his victory of 12 months ago in Austin, Hamilton replied: "Nothing shy of a miracle.
"Vettel's won the last God knows how many races by 30 seconds, he's on pole, he's going to win tomorrow by 30, 40, 50 seconds again. So you can put some money on it if you want; I'm up for making some money on it!"
However, Hamilton also believes that tyre dominance is playing as much of a part as the RB9's performance advantage.
"I'm just asking the guys questions; 'What are we missing?' Because these guys are clearly doing something different with the tyres that is enabling them to have a lot more grip. Because we should be within half a second of them, I think, in pure speed of our car. But today they got the tyres working in a certain window, and we didn't, which just means you have no grip."
