Second on the grid 'will be a joke' - Webber

Mark Webber says "the left hand side of the grid will be a joke" and wants an odd numbered grid slot in qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

After Friday's two practice sessions in which Webber was fifth and second quickest respectively behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel, Webber was asked about how the first corner would be at the start of the race. However, Webber preferred to focus on the grid itself, saying the even-numbered grid slots are going to give a big disadvantage due to the lack of grip off-line.

"I think first of all the left hand side of the grid will be a joke; you want to be on the right hand side if you can," Webber said. "So on pole, third or fifth, something like that. That'll be the first thing and then I think the first corner is a bit like La Source at Spa."

With a number of drivers going off at turn 19, Webber said it was just part of a driver's make-up to look for more grip when a track is slippy and that had led to drivers pushing too hard.

"It's quite blind on the apex so it's difficult for us to see the exact apex point and it just seems to be very, very slippery from apex to exit so a lot of the stuff looked pretty amateurish but we just refused to believe that that's the grip that's available and that's why we kept making mistakes."

"It's fun. Obviously it's a new challenge for us so it can be demanding and a bit frustrating at times because we want to learn faster and that's the way it always is with us guys but in the end I think we executed a pretty clean Friday."
