Bottas not expecting a quick fix in China

Valtteri Bottas is not expecting Williams to be back on the pace at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix and has stressed the problems need more than an "overnight fix".

Williams struggled at the first two rounds of the season as the car's new-for-2013 Coanda exhaust failed to offer the performance the team has expected. Bottas said he was not expecting a miracle this weekend but takes confidence from the latest work at the factory.

"It's nice to see that the team has been pushing flat out through the break and everybody was working as hard as possible to solve the problems, understand the problems and fix the problems," he said. "It will not be an overnight fix, that's a fact, so it will take some time. It's nice to see we will have some new bits but we are not expecting miracles so I just want to get on the track and get a good feel of the parts and then we will see how it is.

"The most important thing is to understand what is the problem. Now we can clearly see that and we see it much better and much more than in the first two weekends. We have had more time now to look at things, but like I said, it's not an overnight fix. It will take time but hopefully we can get back up there as soon as possible."

Asked if it was realistic to expect Williams to be back on the pace at the start of the European season in Spain, Bottas said: "I really hope we can do a proper step there and if we continue to work as hard as we are now it really is possible we can make a proper step. Also, everyone else is improving so we need to catch up at a quicker rate than the others. I think it's good that after Bahrain we have a bit of a break so we have time to manufacturer the parts ahead of Spain. "
