Pastor Maldonado says he has a contract with Williams for next year and is likely to stay despite a disappointing season in 2013.

After winning his first race in 2012, Maldonado has scored just one point this year as Williams has struggled for performance. However, his contract, which is tied in with a significant sponsorship deal with PDVSA, will keep him tied down at the team next year.

"At the moment I have a contract and it's looking quite good," he said.

Maldonado said Williams had made progress this year but is still just shy of securing regular points finishes.

"For sure it was a hard beginning to the season and a hard time for us as a team and we have been working very hard, 24 hours a day trying to improve performance and trying to do something different. At the moment we have found a way but it's not enough to catch the teams that are close to us.

"For sure, there's nothing we can do but keep trying until the last race and there are still five races to go. We have been quite close last weekend to being in the points but we had some problems in the last bit of the race. I will keep trying to get more points before the end of the race and then we will see next year."
