Bottas making progress with back injury
Valtteri Bottas says he is making daily progress with the back problem which ruled him out of the Australian Grand Prix as he pushes for a return to the cockpit in Malaysia.
Bottas withdrew from the season opener on the morning of the Melbourne race after suffering a small tear in the annular part of a disc in his lower back. The Finn had felt a twinge of pain when he hit the brakes during his second flying lap in Q2 and had to be helped from his cockpit at the end of the session.
The injury meant he was unable to escape from the cockpit within the desired time so he was deemed unfit to race by the FIA. As he had taken part in qualifying, Williams only competed with his team-mate Felipe Massa.
On Friday, a week before the first practice session starts in Sepang, Bottas tweeted a picture of himself in a swimming pool along with an optimistic message about his recovery.
Hi guys! Progress is being made and every day is a good step forward. Can't wait for Malaysia! #goodback #sisu #77 pic.twitter.com/0cwyjk6nrV

Bottas will need to be granted permission to race by the FIA and will be assessed in Sepang next Thursday.
