Rookie driver Nico Hulkenberg says he is keen to extend his stay at the Williams team as he continues to find his feet in Formula One.

"I want to stay with Williams and I have heard only positive things," Hulkenberg told Sport1 at Monza. "I assume that I am continuing."

Hulkenberg, who won the GP2 title in 2009, has endured a mixed season in his debut year, but it is likely he will retain his seat alongside F1 veteran Rubens Barrichello for 2011.

"We did not have the speed we thought we would have from the start. It's been a bit disappointing and for me as a rookie, quite difficult. I have received a lot of praise, we are continuing to improve and I'm learning a lot at the moment."

Although Hulkenberg's immediate future lies with Williams, the young German admitted his ultimate ambition is to become world champion, ideally with Ferrari.

"There are many attractive employers. But my ideal one is more Ferrari, really, than Mercedes. There's no timetable, but of course my ultimate goal is to be world champion."
