Nico Hulkenberg said that he hopes to maintain his seat with Williams despite new reports linking GP2 champion Pastor Maldonado with his seat at the team for 2011.
According to Brazil's Grande Premio publication Warm Up, Maldonado has already signed a deal to race alongside Rubens Barrichello at Williams and will bring EUR 15 million of sponsorship from state-owned petroleum company PDVSA.
Hulkenberg, however, is still hopeful he can hold onto his drive.
"I think both sides are still interested in each other and I'm quite confident that we will get together but there is nothing official or nothing I can openly talk about," said Hulkenberg. "What I can say is that I think the best for me and my development and everything... my point of view is that I really would like to stay with Williams, because the car can be competitive next year."
Although Williams faces the prospect of losing major sponsors at the end of the season, Hulkenberg says he wants to hold onto his seat on ability alone and will not bring any money to retain his seat.
"I don't want to be a driver who gets a seat because of money. I never wanted to, it's not my intention. For me talent counts, I hope for the team too. For me the sooner the decision is taken the better, but there's a lot of travelling now and so it's more difficult. I think it will take a few weeks."
