Nico Rosberg believes he could have beaten championship rival Lewis Hamilton during Friday practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix had he put together a clean lap.

Rosberg's best chance of taking the title would be to win the race with Hamilton finishing third or lower, but Hamilton had the upper hand on Friday with a 0.083s advantage. Nevertheless, Rosberg is confident he could have bettered that time with a clean lap.

"0.08s? Yes, I have to check, but I think I have that in my pocket - more than that actually," he said. "It's been a good day and I haven't really got my lap together yet so there is more work to do on the car for tomorrow, but it's feeling good out there."

If Rosberg is to beat Hamilton to the title, he needs at least one car to finish between himself and his team-mate. During second practice Mercedes' nearest rivals were over 0.7s off, but Rosberg believes Williams are holding something back.

"We need to wait and see because the Williams, for example, were actually looking pretty good today at some points today."
