Raikkonen unable to record clean lap in FP2
Kimi Raikkonen says FP2 was not a fair reflection of how much he can get out of his Ferrari in Austria as several factors prevented him from recording a clean lap on the supersoft tyre.
While Fernando Alonso finished third in Friday's afternoon session, Raikkonen could only manage 11th, though both drivers were on different run plans. Though not content with where he finished Raikkonen thinks he gained valuable information for Ferrari ahead of qualifying on Saturday.
"Along with Fernando, we concentrated on different set-up tests, me on the front end and him on the rear, so as to compare the data from the second session," Raikkonen said. "In the afternoon, I had a better feeling from the car, but for various reasons, including a lack of grip, traffic and the wind, I didn't manage to put together a good lap, or to improve in the final sector.
"Despite the changeable weather reducing the amount of track time in the first session, we still managed to complete our programme, which today centred on analysing new aerodynamic parts brought for this race."
Raikkonen is one of four drivers with previous experience in Spielberg, finishing on the podium at the last Austrian Grand Prix in 2003, but he admits his return was a hectic experience.
"Today was particularly busy, which is normal when you go back to a track for the first time in many years."
