Karun Chandhok will take part in qualifying, despite the Indian rookie failing to set three timed laps prior to qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

After sitting out all of Friday with technical problems, he got behind the wheel of his HRT on Saturday only for the car not to engage first gear. FIA rules state: "No driver may start in the race without taking part in at least one practice session". But Chandhok confirmed to the BBC that he will still take part in the session and attempt to line up on the grid.

His team-mate Bruno Senna completed 11 laps on Saturday, adding to his Friday practice total. However, he was 9.902 off the pace of the front runners.
